Brease FAQs

How long does it take to make a conversion?

As a rule of thumb, presume that one minute of video takes one minute of rendering. So for a ten-minute movie, the first conversion will be available in ten minutes.

Smaller videos (less than 320 pixels wide) render faster. Videos that are over 700 pixels wide render noticable slower.

Why is my uploaded video not supported?

We want to support every video format out there, but due to the vast number of formats out there, it just isn't practical.

Formats we do support include:
MPEG4 (3ivx, DivX, Xvid, H264), FLV (VP6 and Sorenson Spark), WMV (up to version 9 - no DRM please), MOV (Sorenson Video 3, H263, H264, animation), MPEG1 and MPEG2 video, AVI video (Indeo, Cinepak, Motion JPEG, MPEG).

Can I set my own conversion settings?

No, you cannot. This is deliberate, because Swagit Brease strives to making online video as easy as possible.

What conversions does Brease create?

For each uploaded movie we immediately render a movie that has a width of 320 pixels. The height depends on the aspect ratio of the uploaded movie. This 320 video is rendered in FLV and MP4 format.

When our servers detect that a video is served with an aspect ratio 480 pixels wide or larger, we will automatically render a larger version.

How can I change the appearance of the player to match my website?

You'll find several settings under the players tab of Brease. You can add and publish as many custom-looking players as you want.

If you want to create a completely different look and feel, you can build your own skin and upload it to your account. It will then be available under the 'Layout' section of any of your custom players.

How can I make the video stop stuttering while playing?

Sometimes you may experience a stuttering playback when viewing your videos. This is often the case when you are on a slower internet connection, or at least a connection that is too slow to play back the video properly.

How do I upload clips over 100 MB using FTP?

If you don't have an ftp client then you will need to get one and install it on your computer. There are plenty of free ftp clients, but we suggest FileZilla.

Once you have an ftp client installed, you can upload to Brease by using your username and password associated with your Brease account. The hostname you will need to use is the same as the Brease url: brease.swagit.com

Why can’t I add more properties to a video?

We want to keep the system as simple as possible. Adding extra fields only of interest to some customers would complicate the system.

I would like to have feature X, is that possible?

Because the system is used by a lot of people we will not implement features that are specific to single users. However, let us know what you would like to see as we are always improving the system.

What does size not converted symbol mean?

This means that the specified size was not converted. This is usually the result in situations where the master video file is smaller then the desired encoded width.

What image formats does the thumbnail upload feature support?

Image files in the format of .gif, .jpg and .png are all supported.

What are some of the common settings for creating a player with a playlist displayed below the video?

Your player size should be targeted towards the size of your video content. For the purpose of this example, we will assume your video content is 480x360 and you are using the default control bar:

• Set your width to 480

• Set your height to 440 (this is larger then the video height to account for control bar and size of playlist)

• Set the "Show the controlbar" field to "Below the Video"

• Set the "Show the playlist " field to "Below the Video" (this will show your playlist under the video and control bar.)

• Set the "Size of the playlist" to 60 (this is the average size in pixels of a playlist with a still. 60 pixels plus the defualt control bar size being 20 pixels, equals 80 pixels. This is added to the height of your video content to get the player overall height. 360+80=440 total height of player.)

• Save your settings and preview. Adjust any height parameters to accommodate custom skins, playlists or control bars.
