Athens Unveils New Webcasting Solution
Over the years, live broadcasts of council meetings were restricted to homeowners that subscribed to cable television service and these broadcasts were not available to homeowners who preferred satellite TV. With streaming video, people without access to the local cable network will be able to view Live & On-Demand council meetings by visiting www.ci.athens.oh.us and clicking on the link titled "TGC 15 Streaming Video". The link is available from the City’s homepage. A calendar of council meeting dates and times as well as the current meeting agenda is also posted on the City’s website.
Athens, Ohio's TGC 15 chose Swagit Productions, LLC as their streaming video provider as the Station and city staff members were delighted to find that the City of Athens did not have to hire any new employees or change any current staff workloads to integrate with Swagit's solutions. Athens chose a "hands-free" package that allows Swagit to edit, process, stream and archive all media files associated with TCG 15.
The City will officially launch the new video streaming technology at the September 14, 2009 City Council meeting. City Council meets in Regular Session every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 7:30 PM in the Council Chambers on the third floor of the City Building. Citizens will also be able to view Planning Commission, Zoning Board, Tree Commission, PSA’s, and other Special Programming provided by the City.
